“Successful weight loss takes programming, not willpower.” ~Phil McGraw
When it comes to weight loss, the biggest hurdle that people face is that of getting started. Where do you start? How do you start?
If you are one of these people, you’re not alone. In fact, I was there myself when I started this journey to health. It doesn’t really matter whether you want to lose ten or a hundred pounds, honestly. It’s all about putting one proverbial foot in front of the other.
The first step to successful weight loss is to set some goals. Goals should be used in the same way as milestones are used on highways. Just as without any milestone, you will have no idea of where you are going, without a goal, you will have no idea of how much work you need to do to get to where you want to go.
Write down the answers on a piece of paper or put them in your blog or on your phone. Refer back to them occasionally. But ultimately, while your goals are important, they won’t be what’s getting you through each day–that will be credited to the small changes you make each day to lead you to those goals.
Setting goals is just not enough; in order to make the goals achievable, you must set REALISTIC goals. If you have a goal of losing sixty pounds within a couple of weeks or a month, that is not going to happen. Setting such unrealistic goals for yourself will nullify the very effect of goal setting.
When you set unrealistic goals and fail to achieve the same, you will be disappointed and frustrated with yourself and your weight loss efforts. Believe me, I’ve been there.
Ideally, no matter what you do, you should aim to lose no more than 1-2 pounds per week. So set your goals accordingly. For example, if you want to lose sixty pounds, it will take you at least six or seven months to do it in a healthy way. And what I’ve learned is that weight that comes off slowly tends to stay off longer.
Set small and achievable goals for yourself so that when you achieve them, you will feel more confident to move forward. This is the biggest secret of successful weight loss!
“Life loves to be taken by the lapel and told: ‘I’m with you kid. Let’s go.'” ~Maya Angelou
The days when children spent their free time running around outside, playing tag and hide and go seek have slowly been replaced by gaming systems, computers and television. Most parents would love it if their child asked permission to go outside to play before you ever had a chance to send them out. This is where just a little bit or work, along with help from a company that specializes in providing safe outdoor play areas for children, comes in handy.
Providing your children with a place to play, exercise and have fun will in turn produce a happier, healthier child. This may seem like a difficult task but, in reality, it is only as far as your own computer. Jungle gyms have been around for many years and they continue to provide a fun form of exercise that children never seem to get tired of.
Jungle gyms offer children an opportunity to create a world limited only by their own imaginations and with the proper resources, parents can add onto existing jungle gyms to build an entire playground. Getting children to set down the gaming controller to go outside and play can be as easy as that.
If you have older kids and a jungle gym just doesn’t excite them like it used to, then why not consider installing a basketball net? Basketball equipment in Toronto is readily available and can easily be installed. Turning this process into a family project is a fantastic way of getting your kids excited about the idea before it even becomes a reality and you might just be surprised as to how much easier it will be to get your older kids to go outside for some fresh air and exercise.
As you can imagine, the task of providing fun indoor or outdoor play areas will take some time to build but it will surely be time well spent. There is nothing more important than the health of our children and the outcome rests in our hands. The choices are simple. Take the easy route and let the televisions, computers, and gaming systems determine how our children spend their free time or take the route that will require a little bit of elbow grease that will bring about results that your family will benefit from forever. The choice is yours!.

Ask any counselor and they’ll tell you that no relationship is perfect and we can all do things to strengthen them. With this in mind, let’s take a look at 4 ways that we can make small adjustments that will really cement that relationship bond.
A little gratitude goes a long way
Remembering to thank your partner may seem a little obvious but you may be surprised at how much those two simple words could mean. Studies have shown that on days where one partner said ‘thank you’ to the other, the recipient felt more relationship satisfaction. This is something that many relationship and marriage counseling services in Orange VA and the surrounding areas teach.
Have fun and joke around
Okay so maintaining a relationship is undoubtedly hard work and when you get into the nitty gritty of living together such as working, paying the bills, cooking and cleaning, quite often fun is one of the first things to disappear from a relationship. Ask any marriage counselor that if a lack of fun has been cited as a couple’s reasons for seeking help and you can be certain that the answer is going to be yes. When you can use fun to handle the tough stuff in relationships, then things get resolved far easier. Do inject some humor back into your relationship.
‘Go to town’ on good news
We all expect our partners to be there for us when times are tough, But equally important is how couples respond to each other during the good times. Counselors, Culpeper VA state that individual’s whose partners respond in an enthusiastic and interested manner tend to report a greater satisfaction in their overall relationship.
Say it with words
One of the most powerful exercises that sessions of couples therapists undertake is to get each party to write down their feelings. Being able to express your feelings using good old fashioned pen and paper in the form of a love letter or a romantic poem often gives far more meaning than even the most expensive of gifts.
Whether you decide to say thank you more often, say ‘I love you’ with a poem, or inject a bit of humor back into your relationship, it is possible to enhance it and cement that bond, by doing these little things.
