A Younique Journey: Am I ready for this level of awesome makeup?

younique unboxing presenter kitI feel like I’m about to embark on a whole new level of awesome when it comes to makeup, people. So, as I mentioned last week, my friend Sarah recently introduced me to this Younique makeup stuff. After trying it for a couple of weeks, I posted about it and shared my thoughts–the stuff is great.

That, along with the fact that I am in love with the company’s whole philosophy (it happens to fit RIGHT IN with my message–it’s “Uplift. Empower. Motivate.”–don’t you love it?), led me to shell out $99 for a presenter’s kit.

(Which, TBH, is really more like a sweet deal for anyone–the whole marketing thing is done online and there’s no reason to need to share these things with any potential customers).

See, all of the “parties” you do are purely online. The reason for the presenter’s kit? Simple–the company wants you to USE them and talk about them to your friends and relatives via social media. That’s the whole deal–what could be better, right?

younique case makup frontSo, my kit arrived today and I have to be honest, I’m a little intimidated. I’ve got probably 40 or 50 little pots of colored stuff that has labels like “matte” and “pigment” and “concealer” and something else…along with another set of 3D Fiber Lashes (woot, can’t ever have too many of these, I’m telling you!) and some makeup brushes and a little white charm….and a few other things.

Plus, it came in this super cute leather-looking case with embossed designs. It looks classy and expensive. I always enjoy stuff like this–and it could be used for makeup or for something else. It’s got touch appeal too.

But the intimidation comes in because, while I like to think I’m pretty skilled with basic makeup stuff, all these little pots and jars and mixing and whatnot–this stuff is a whole other level for me. Check out what people do with this stuff–it’s kind of amazing. Can I do it? We shall see!

But you know what? I’m going to give it a shot, and see if a “real” person can effectively use this stuff. I know I’ve managed to do pretty well with the 3D Fiber lashes (well, now that I’ve figured out how to properly use them–a post is coming up on that one later) and the other few things  I’ve tried. But this color stuff? I have no clue.

At this point, I’ll ask you–have you tried Younique products before? Do you like them, and what are your best tips for all these colors and how to use them most effectively? All links and ideas will be appreciated.

As for me, I’ll keep you posted–I’ll review and share my own progress/experiments/successes and failures with this brave new makeup frontier right here at QueenBeeing.com. Stay tuned.

Virtual Beauty Bash: Get Younique With QueenBeeing

younique lashes modeledSo, my friend Sarah brought me a few products from this awesome makeup company called Younique recently, and she did so with the intention of having me both love it and talk about it to my blog readers, among others.

After having tried the products for two weeks, I’m totally hooked. I am especially fond of the “false” eyelashes (called Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes). They’re applied a lot like mascara, but really cause your eyelashes to be considerably fuller and longer. This has something to do with the second coat you apply, which is the “fiber” coat.

I also really like the primer and the mineral makeup/coverup and I’m very excited about the rosewater facial refresher stuff. The BB cream does a great job and the makeup brushes are as good as any I’ve ever used, but better shaped for certain looks, in my opinion.

Those are the only products I’ve tried so far, but Sarah has raved about the eye pigments, so I’m looking at giving those a shot as well, among other products (like the anti-aging ones, shh!).

Queen Bee QT: How to Fix Chapped Lips

Queen Bee QT: How to Fix Chapped Lips

duckface selfieLip Tips To Stop The Dryness

The best way to stop chapped lips is to avoid the dry cold weather, but since heading off to a better climate isn’t very practical for most people, you can head off to your nearest pharmacy or supermarket instead. Coat your lips with lip balm several times a day, especially when you are going outdoors. Remember to keep the lip balm with you at all times.

Use A Sunscreen

The sun can damage your lips (especially the bottom one) the same way as it damages the rest of your skin, so use a lip balm that contains a sunscreen. You often see sportsmen using the very same product, especially in countries which have harmful sun rays due to the lack of ozone layer protection.

Wear Lipstick

Studies have shown that creamy lipsticks in addition to a sunscreen will help soothe lips that are already chapped. The lipstick filters out the light, including harmful rays, so pucker up and put on that lipstick – you’ll look great too !

Stop Infection

The problem with sore lips is that they can easily become infected. To prevent this happening, apply some antiseptic ointment which you can get from your pharmacy. If your lips are severely chapped, then use the antiseptic ointment at least twice a day – the morning and night time is the most important.

Use Vitamin B

Sometimes nutritional deficiences can be to blame, especially the lack of the vitamin B complex and iron, so take a multivitamin supplement to be on the side of caution. When taking supplements though, never take more than the recommended dose.

Drink Plenty Of Fluids

Don’t let your lips and body as a whole become dehydrated, drink additional fluids especially during the winter. As we age, the ability of our cells to retain moisture decreases so our dryness problem may actually increase during the winter time. Try to drink a glass of water every few hours.

Don’t Lick Your Lips !

When you lick your lips, you apply moisture which then evaporates and leaves your lips feeling even dryer than before. Licking chapped lips can in some cases cause dermatitis around the mouth, so beware. If you are tempted to lick your lips, just image that you’ve had cow dung applied to them – the cow dung won’t cure your lips, but it will sure stop you from licking em !!

Think Zinc

Some people drool in their sleep which can dry out your lips and make your chapped lips much worse. If this is a problem, apply zinc oxide ointment every night before bed – this acts as a barrier to protect your lips and will stop this happening.

Use Natural Oil From Your Skin

If you happen to work outside and don’t have anything handy to use on your lips, here’s something that you can do…….rub your finger along the side of your face and nose, this way you will pick up some of the natural oil which is produced from your skin. The oil on your finger can then be applied to your lips in the normal way. As the day wears on, the skin on your nose and face will become more oily, so you’ve always got a natural supply – you can’t get a better home remedy than that !

Inside Guide: Why Your Skin Ages

Inside Guide: Why Your Skin Ages

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs with all our body organs, skin ages as programmed by genes. This is called internal ageing. Dry skin, age spots, white hair, hair loss, thin nails and other skin changes come purely due to age. Skin also ages by external factors. Sun is the main external factor that ages the skin. The sunrays consist of many light spectrums. Ultra violet rays damage the skin most. Both UVA and UVB are responsible for skin damage. Ageing due to sun is called photo ageing.

Sun-Sun breaks down the collagen and elastin in the skin. The skin loses its elasticity and firmness and develops premature wrinkles. Photo ageing depends on the skin color and the amount of sun exposure over the years. Dark colored individuals show less sun damage while fair skinned people show more sun damage for the same exposure. With rising age, the total sun exposure increases and its gives rise to not only age spots, but also more serious problems such as actinic keratoses and skin cancers. The only way to prevent sun damage is protection from the sun.

Gravity plays its part in skin ageing. As you know gravity pulls everything towards the earth. As we age, the effect of gravity becomes evident. The loss of elastin in the skin with ageing plays a role in this. With gravity, jowls form, the ears elongate, the tip of the nose elongates and other such changes take place.

Smoking- tobacco plays a major role in skin ageing. It is found that smokers form wrinkles sooner than non-smokers. Smokers also develop unsightly yellow hue to their skin color. Smoking brings about biochemical changes in body and that accelerates ageing of skin. By quitting smoking, this can be stopped to a certain extent.

Expressions of face- when we make facial expressions, we use facial muscles and the skin forms lines. With age, the skin loses its ability to spring back and lines form. With repetitive facial expressions, these lines become permanent. To avoid such lines and wrinkles, stop making facial expressions as much as you can and if you are doing facial exercises, be aware that the lines will form permanently.

Sleeping position- Sleep lines form over years depending on your sleeping position. If you sleep with face down on the pillow, you may develop wrinkles on your forehead. if you sleep sideways with your cheeks resting on the pillow, the wrinkles will appear accordingly. To avoid formation of sleep lines, change your sleeping position frequently. If you sleep with your face upward on the pillow, no sleep lines will form.
