“Destiny is no matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.” ~William Jennings Bryan
Are you relying on luck and random acts to determine your life? Or are you making conscious decisions and steering your own ship?
These are two dramatically different ways to live. The former is not effective or enjoyable – it’ll just set you up for plenty of anxiety, uncertainty and general dissatisfaction.
I don’t know about you, but in my experience, the latter method is much more effective and satisfying. In any case, I’m very interested to hear what you think about all of this.
Take a look at the following 14 points and apply them to yourself 0 do they make you feel anything? Do they make you want to change yourself, or are you already on the right track? Share your thoughts in the comments below, or shoot me an email at angyatkinson at gmail dot com.
Entropy is your enemy. Entropy is the idea that all systems have a gradual decline into disorder. A sandcastle tends to fall apart over time. You won’t see a sandcastle spontaneously rise from the beach. A clean room becomes more cluttered over time. It won’t become less cluttered on its own.
If you’re living by choice, you’re adding energy into your life and moving in a predetermined direction. There’s regular improvement. This is all that’s needed to overcome the effects of entropy. You can outrun the pull into disorder.
If you’re living by chance, you lack direction. Your life is always becoming more disordered. It’s only when your discomfort is great enough that you’ll get busy and make it tolerable again. But it will never be great. You deserve more than this type of life will ever provide.
Great things rarely happen by accident. The odds of anyone becoming a brain surgeon, movie star, astronaut, or president or living an amazing life are slim without intention. All of these things require an intention.
If you’re living by choice, you know what you want and you’re making it happen. You have a pretty good idea of what your life will look like in the future. Anything is possible with enough time and effort.
If you’re living by chance, you likely have a job you don’t want and you’re living a life you don’t enjoy. You spend a lot of your effort putting out fires just to keep your life the same. Life becomes one minor catastrophe after another.
A great life requires some thought. It’s hard to get what you want if you don’t know what you want. If don’t know what you want, you’re stuck with whatever you get.
If you’re living by choice, you’re able to set goals. Attaining them creates the life you desire, step by step.
If you’re living by chance, you don’t set goals. Failing to choose the direction of your life means not being clear on your desires. Without a target, you’re just drifting through life.
Consistency is important to enjoying a balanced life. It’s not just important to be consistent, but to be consistent effectively. Watching five hours of TV each night is consistent, but not effective.
If you’re living by choice, you are in the position to take effective, consistent action. A great career, body, social life, or anything else requires consistency, day after day. Making choices about your life provides the opportunity to be consistent in an effective manner.
If you’re living by chance, you’re consistently inconsistent. Your life is too random to make progress in any meaningful way. The only consistent part of your life is passivity.
Choose the life you want to live. Any other alternative leads to unsatisfactory results. Make decisions and choose to stick with them. Live a life that you’ve designed. Avoid living life by default.
You can create a much more satisfying and enjoyable life with choice than you’ll ever achieve through chance alone. Be bold: choose your life. You’ll be glad you did.
This author follows an order for developing self mastery. Reading Jim Pritchard’s Book, “The Warrior Mind,” reminded of this book, as Pritchard used 6 energies to overcoming obstacles which manifest as people and situations can become intimidating. Every morning I wake up to incantations and affirmations, with stretching and 2 glasses of water. I was able to take what Atkinson wrote, and fit it into my routine and my psychology database. I also like the fact that Atkinson stresses the importance of change. Muhammad Ali once said, that he didn’t count his pushups, but did as many as he could til he felt pain. Patience is another term Atkinson uses which is a simple term, but she stresses that rewards come with patience and consistency. The book is straight-forward, but its all the things we forget when we are depressed or have anxiety. Pritchard had discussed that fear doesn’t serve us, as their is only risk versus danger. Atkinson touches on when you decide to do something, creating a schedule and deadline are keys or tools for your toolbox. The only thing I have to say with that is, sometimes we hit walls, and the deadline can cause extra anxiety. I can’t tell you how many walls I have hit, and used fear to drive me home, which was not healthy. It made me laugh to, that Atkinson include flossing, she couldn’t be more right. Flossing tremendously decreases your change of heart disease. One thing I would include in Part-2, is to include always using sunscreen. Vegetables and water are the key to weight loss, and her idea of a financial worksheet has helped me through my military and government career. I could see a a 1-page outline listing all of these facts, displayed as bullets, as a daily reference sheet. Rock on.
“Shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still be among the stars.” ~Les Brown
Anyone who knows me probably knows that I do everything within my power to stay positive about every situation. And it serves me quite well.
Still, occasionally something sticks in my head and I just have to talk about it.
Like, for example, the fact that I’ve read three different Facebook posts today about creating New Year’s resolutions–each of which said something to the effect of “be sure to set goals, but don’t shoot too high.”
I’m here to tell you that is complete nonsense.
Stop whatever you’re doing for a minute and read this:
The fact is that you won’t get more than you expect.
Hold on. Read it again. Really GET what I’m saying before you keep going.
You ONLY get what you expect.
So, let’s say you’d really like to open your own business.
Now, you could resolve to do that, and if you believe that it will manifest (and take inspired action as necessary), the world is your oyster.
But, let’s just say you’re one of those Negative Nelly or Ned types and you don’t believe it can happen.
You worry about not having enough money, not having enough support, not being able to get the loan or the employees or WHATEVER it is that you are afraid of – and then, my friend, you might as well just pack up the idea before you even get started.
Why? Because you get what you BELIEVE you will get. If you believe you will have “not enough” then expect it. You’ve got to focus on having “more than you need” or everything you need IN ABUNDANCE if you expect to get anywhere.
Fact: You simply cannot achieve more than you believe you can.
It’s not that complicated, really. Like Mary Kay Ash once said, “If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can’t, you’re right.”
Read carefully my friends: Do Not Put Limits on Your Desires! You can have, do or be whatever you want, if you believe that you can. You don’t have to know exactly how you’re going to get there, either.
That’s one of the cool things about this whole deal–put your desires out to the universe and then believe that you’re manifesting them. Because you are.
You are what you think. Placing limits on your thoughts (or attempting to limit the aspirations of others) will only attract more limits into your life. Instead, open your mind and recognize that the world is abundant. You can achieve whatever you believe you can.
Think I’m full of it?
Think of Andrew Carnegie. The child of poor immigrants, he believed that he could achieve his dreams–and went on to become the second richest man in history.
So how did he do it?
He simply believed that he could–he decided what he wanted, took the necessary inspired action, and his true divine desires manifested exactly as he expected.
“I am no longer cursed by poverty because I took possession of my own mind, and that mind has yielded me every material thing I want, and much more than I need,” Carnegie once said. “But this power of mind is a universal one, available to the humblest person as it is to the greatest.”
In case I haven’t made myself clear, don’t believe anyone who tells you that you need to put limits on your goals and desires. You are the keeper of your own destiny, and YOU decide what you believe you can accomplish. Refuse to accept anything less than your true divine desires.
Still not convinced?
Remember what Buddha said: “All that we are is the result of what we have thought.”
Think big, my friends. Believe that your greatest desires will manifest–because the truth is that we really do get what we expect.
Need a further nudge? Consider what famed American writer and mythologist Joseph Campbell said.
“Follow your bliss, and doors will open for you that you never knew existed. Follow your bliss, and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls.”
What do you think? Will you refuse to accept limits on your potential this year? Tell me in the comments section, below!
“Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve.” ~Mary Kay Ash, founder Mary Kay Cosmetics

A great life doesn’t happen by chance. It’s the result of having goals and skillfully allocating your resources in order to reach them. These resources include your thoughts, time, and energy.
Ultimately, a great life comes from taking the 24 hours you’re given each day and using them in a wise manner. This is more effective than just dealing with the next item on your endless lis of chores or reacting to what’s happening around you.
The key is in being proactive to create the life you desire.
Consider making these action tips a part of your daily routine:
Get started. Avoid waiting for the perfect time or you’ll be waiting forever. It may be tempting to keep putting things off until you reach some milestone. But instead, take the first step to realizing your success and start now.
Create an excess of everything valuable. A great life is largely the result of having more than you absolutely need. You can apply this concept to time, money, fun, space, energy, love, friends, and anything else that matters to you.
What if you saved 5 years of living expenses and had 3 days a week to do what you want?
Wouldn’t it be nice to have so many friends that you could easily find someone available for a night on the town?
Can you imagine making 5 times the amount of money you need to pay your bills and getting to enjoy your life?
Simplify your life. Eliminate the things from your life that aren’t bringing you enjoyment or contributing to your success. Everything else is a distraction. By doing this, you free up the time and energy to focus on the important stuff.
Prioritize. Give the most important items in your life the highest priority. Consider the people you know that seem to constantly struggle. You’ll likely see that their priorities aren’t leading them to success. If you focus on irrelevant things, your life doesn’t move in a positive direction.
If you accurately prioritize and allocate your resources accordingly, success will be just around the corner.
Choose the life you want. The only alternative is to rely on random luck.
Remove the superfluous from your life. How many things in your life are physically and emotionally draining? Do everything you can to eliminate the distractions in your life and your energy level and productivity will soar
Strive for excellence. Great lives come from great effort. Are you spending your time and money in the best way possible? Your best effort isn’t simply “trying really hard.” It’s also doing your best to figure out where to focus your energy. Be effective and efficient.
Control your thinking.Taking charge of your thoughts is a huge priority. If you look at most of the previous tips, they’re about making it easier to control your thoughts.
Simplifying, having priorities, and removing distractions will all help you to control your thoughts. The more time you can spend focusing on your goals, finding solutions, and believing, the more successful you’ll become.
Success is the result of simplifying, focusing your resources, and controlling your thoughts. You already have everything you need to get started. The other things you require will be found along the way.
Start implementing these ideas today. They’re the backbone for creating a life you’ll love.
Sometimes negativity and toxic environments that come with narcissistic abuse can weigh you down so much that you must do a complete cleanse to shake them off.
Meditation, positive thinking, eating for health, and mantras are all helpful daily but may not be enough.
Even when you try to avoid toxic elements, you may end up dealing with them in the workplace or even with your toxic family.
A deep cleanse can help you shake off this toxic energy overall, leaving you looking and feeling your best.
How to Do an Internal Cleanse With Juice or a Smoothie
A cleansing juice or smoothie can go a long way toward removing the toxins you have put into your body throughout the week.
Add energy-boosting foods like ginger and carrots if you feel like you need a boost as well as a cleanse.
Below are some of the best foods for juice or smoothie to cleanse the body.
Yogurt with live active yeast cultures
How to Do an External Cleanse
An internal cleanse will help you remove the toxins you have ingested, but your mind and body may still feel weighed down by some of the negative energies you have absorbed over the course of the week.
A cleansing bath followed by meditation can help you get back on track and focus on your positive and healing energies.
How to Take a Cleansing Bath
When we talk about a “cleansing bath,” it’s about more than just washing the dust off for the day.
You’re going to focus on your mental and emotional energy as well.
Sage and salt are your go-to items for this remedy.
They don’t just work well for a bath cleanse, either.
You can use them to free your home from negative energies as well.
Light up some sage, in some form. Even rubbed sage sprinkled on a tea light candle is better than nothing.
Sprinkle salt in your bathtub. Sea salt is best.
Run a hot bath. Soak in the bath and wash with the water in the tub, working from head to toe.
As you wash, imagine the negative energies from the day being washed from you. After the bath, run the shower and picture yourself rejuvenated by the fresh water as the tainted water runs down the drain.
Follow this up with an inspiring meditation. In the coming week, try to avoid negative people and energies to sustain a happy, healthy demeanor.

You might add these to your bath water, put a few drops of oil in potpourri, use potpourri alone, or any number of combinations. You might even simply use a lotion with these scents after your bath.
Cleanse to Boost Sexual Energy
If you feel a little less…lusty… for your partner than usual, a cleanse will help get you back to your foundation, assuming your partner isn’t a narcissist – in which case you have a whole other issue.
However, aromatherapy can go a long way toward increasing your sex drive in particular.
Add some essential oils to your cleansing bath, in the bathroom, or in the lotions you put on after a bath.
You can also use them in the bedroom, sprinkled on the bed, in a cotton ball next to the bed, or even a few drops on the pillow.
Recommended Essential Oils for Increasing Sex Drive and Sexuality
Below are some of the scents that promote an increased sex drive and sexuality in general.
As you can see, a couple of scents provide more than one type of energy boost. They also have other healing qualities outside of energy levels. These are the scents you should always have on hand if you want to let nature help you live a satisfying lifestyle in general.
