“Life is like a roller coaster, live it, be happy, enjoy life.” ~Avril Lavigne
I don’t know about you, but sometimes, when I need to understand a concept, a concrete example helps a lot. So, if you’re struggling to understand the concept of learning to create the life of your dreams, I hope that you’ll be able to find some connection to it through my own personal experience with a roller coaster.
It’s no joke–the first time I ever intentionally chose to change my life and recognized that I’d succeeded, I was only 9 years old–and it involved a roller coaster.
Change Your Mind, Change Your life: My Philosophy
As you may or may not be aware, I have a philosophy that has served me quite well: I believe that anyone can choose the life she wants if she does so intentionally. I believe that you bring about what you think about, that you get back what you put out there–karma, the law of attraction, the Golden Rule–call it whatever you want.
It works pretty consistently. It turns out that the way you choose to perceive any situation can and will affect the outcome.
The fact that my first memory of a conscious attempt and success at using this concept to my advantage happened before my 10th birthday is proof enough for me–but if that weren’t enough, the result was certainly a confirmation.
How the Roller Coaster Comes Into Play
So there I was, 9 years old and at Six Flags with friends–and not a care in the world–except, that is, for one thing: a horrible fear of roller coasters, upside-down rides and anything with a reputation for making one vomit.
I was so terrified of them that I felt like a big baby (remember, I was 9!), and I remember thinking: “I don’t want to feel like this. I wish I wasn’t so afraid to go on these rides…”
That day, I made a choice.
I decided that I was going to FAKE IT. (At least until I made it!)
Faking It Til You Make It: A Concrete Exanple
When I say fake it til you make it, I mean to behave AS IF what you want has already happened.
So, in the case of the roller coaster, I decided that day that I would PRETEND to love the roller coaster, and that I would pretend SO HARD that I WOULD figure out how to learn to love it.
And guess what? I totally did it–I faked it (acted happy when I wanted to scream–smiled and threw my arms up in the air while I laughed and cheered when I wanted to hold on and beg them to stop the ride.)
And then–the crazy thing.
It happened. That day. I learned to love the roller coaster, and became a bit of a junkie after awhile (the thrill of the perceived risk was kind of awesome, it turned out!!).
I mean, sure, at first, I was totally faking it. But by the end of the day, I truly GOT IT–the reason people loved roller coasters. It was not about being excited to have yourself all flipped upside-down and inside out; it was about overcoming the fear by throwing yourself into the experience.
Your Perception Defines Your Life
As a result of that momentary and seemingly insignificant thing, my 9-year-old self learned something that I’d carry with me for the rest of my life: that not only could I choose my own reaction and thus my experience, but by doing so, I could positively influence the outcome of my day and even my life.
True story.
So tell me, do you believe that you have the power to change your own life? If not, tell me why. If so, tell me about your own experiences that “proved it” for you!
“QueenBeeing” can best be described as a lifestyle that begins with understanding and employing the art of being your true, authentic self and of manifesting the life of which you’ve always dreamed–but it’s also so much more.
“The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination.” ~Carl Rogers

“Whether you believe you can do a thing or not, you are right.” ~Henry Ford
Skeptics will tell you that the law of attraction is just a bunch of hocus-pocus.
Some will even claim to have tested the law, and they’ll tell you that it just doesn’t work–even though many quantum physicists, philosophers and teachers say otherwise.
Law of Attraction for Skeptics : The Case of Ben
Consider the case of Ben, the 32 year old single man who claims that he desperately wants to get married.
He says he’s always looking for Miss Right, and that every time he thinks he’s found her, something prevents the relationship from continuing–one or the other finds a reason it can’t work.
Ben believes that if the law of attraction worked, he’d already be married with a couple of mini-Bens running around. So, he figures it’s all a lie–he’s not getting what he wants.
Law of Attraction for Skeptics: What’s Not Working For Ben
The law of attraction is neutral–it knows no good or bad. It just IS. You don’t get what you WANT–you get what you FOCUS on–what you believe, think about and speak about.
So, when you focus on any particular thing–good or bad–that’s what you attract.
Our skeptic (who claims to want to get married but who focuses on the fact that every relationship he gets involved in fails) is in fact using the law of attraction successfully.
What? He’s using it successfully? Really?
Take a minute to think about this. Ben’s attracting what he focuses on–what he thinks about and says and believes to be true. After all, the vibration he’s sending out into the Universe is “I am a failure in my relationships with women. Every woman I find is wrong for me in some way.”
So, Ben’s getting exactly what he thinks he’ll get–a long line of missed opportunities and unsuccessful relationships.
Law of Attraction for Skeptics: What Ben Should Do Differently
If Ben wants to find Miss Right, he needs to focus on using the law of attraction to his advantage. First things first, he needs to lose all the negativity about his previous relationships. He should take the time to be grateful for the gifts and experiences he received from each one, and forgive himself and his former girlfriends for any negativity that may have occurred during those relationships.
Next, he needs to understand exactly what he’s looking for in a woman. This may seem very obvious, but often times, we don’t really KNOW what we’re looking for. So in Ben’s case, maybe he could write a detailed list of the qualities that his ideal Miss Right would have to help him figure it out. In any case, he needs to ask for what he wants, very specifically.
Ben needs to BELIEVE that he will find his Miss Right. He needs to FEEL the feelings of having the woman of his dreams, and he needs to be grateful for her BEFORE he meets her–because he needs to recognize that she IS out there, just waiting for him to find her.
And then, he just needs to be open to receiving her, and to take inspired action as appropriate. With a simple change in perspective and minor adjustments to his thoughts and words, Ben can use the law of attraction to his advantage.
How About You?
Do you ever find yourself wishing things in your life were different? Thinking that no matter what you do, you can’t get ahead? We’ve all been there–but here’s the good news. Just like Ben, you can change your life by simply changing your mind.
Bliss Mission: Law of Attraction for Skeptics
My challenge to you today is to identify a negative perception that is holding you back, and to change it. So, for example, if you’d like to have more money in your life, quit focusing on being broke–and start being grateful for the abundant flow of cash that’s coming toward you right now. Really BELIEVE that you’re getting what you want. Remember the old saying–as within, so without. What you think, say and believe truly is is what you’ll receive.

I live a complete life. A great portion of my daily exploits focuses on the needs of others. I recognize that I am called to be a helping hand, but I also know when to step back and focus on what is important to me.
In my family life, I cater to the needs of my children. They are dependent on me to provide, guide, and support. I take that role seriously and I know that I am loved for it.
I also recognize that time for myself is essential.
I acknowledge the importance of satisfying my needs. When I feel like my life is off balance, I know it is time to pull away from current concerns and find my center.
When I feel a desire for renewal, I let my loved ones know that I need a time out. I am happy to have a family that understands the need for balance and glad that they’re willing and able to let me take some time for myself.
Today, I commit to having a balanced life, focusing equally on those I love and myself. I make time to strengthen my own well-being and renewal, knowing that taking care of myself enables me to be all I can be – for myself and those I love.
Self-Reflection Questions:
1. Do I ever allow myself to get burned out and exhausted?
2. Have I spent time teaching my children how to bring balance into their lives?
3. How can I make more time for myself?
