Learn to Love Yourself, Live the Life You Want: 8 Simple Steps

Learn to Love Yourself, Live the Life You Want: 8 Simple Steps

create yourself“You are very powerful, provided you know how powerful you are.” ~Yogi Bhajan

When you like the person you are, making life choices becomes easier because you trust your own judgment. You recognize that you have the power to create whatever it is that you want for yourself and your family.

Try these strategies to raise your self-esteem:

  1. Stay in tune with your thoughts. Notice when you’re thinking negatively about yourself. When you can identify the types of situations in which you tend to put yourself down, you can then do something about them.
  1. Squelch unhelpful thinking. After you take notice of the situations that trigger those negative thoughts, you can set out to stop such thoughts or at least divert them. Do so by developing your own imagery technique.
  • Imagine a stop sign and tell yourself to “stop negativity now.”
  • Visualize that you’re at the beach or your grandmother’s house, where you always feel relaxed and self-assured.
  • Another way to quell unwelcome ideas is to seek out something positive in the situations you find challenging. For example, if you feel you’re socially inept, make it a point to help others open up to you by asking questions about their work or hobbies. You’ll likely find some common ground for a great conversation.
  • Learning to stop negative thinking increases your self-confidence and emphasizes that you choose your own path rather than a recurring, unfocused thought pattern.

3. Know your strengths.Occasionally reflecting on what you’re good at will help you see that you’re cherished, important, and helpful to yourself and others. List everything you can think of that you do well. Be generous. If nobody makes a ham sandwich like you do, write it down. If you consistently win at golf, include it. Make your list longer and longer. Keep adding to it. Challenge yourself to add one strength a month to your list. As your list grows, so will your positive feelings about yourself.

  1. Underscore your unique or quirky aspects. If you can recite the name of every major Manga comic book or all the elements on the chemistry table, you’re a truly unique individual. Embrace these special talents with the care and attention they deserve. Plus, there’s likely someone out there looking for the off-beat talent or knowledge you hold.
  1. Accept your positives and negatives. Learn to accept the parts of you that you’ve tried to reject in the past. See those less desirable aspects as insurance that you’re a member of the human race.
  • Personal acceptance helps you see that everything in life has a delicate balance and all parts of you create the very special “you” that you are.
  1. Stay focused to live your best life. Although it’s wise to be aware of your less than positive aspects, focusing on the good things will help you excel and continue accomplishing your goals. Keep moving ahead.
  1. Every morning, make the decision to be in a “good mood.” It’s a lot easier to accept who you are when you feel good about this day. Open yourself to the possibilities around you.
  1. Set goals that you want to accomplish. Rather than working toward what your parents or friends think you should do, search within yourself what you’d like to work for in life and then go for it. Life is a lot more fun when you choose what you want.

Liking yourself allows you to share with others all the good you have in your heart. And the more you do, the more positive energy you have flowing in to your life. Set out today to put these tips into action. You’ll enjoy your best life ever!

Virtual Beauty Bash: Get Younique With QueenBeeing

younique lashes modeledSo, my friend Sarah brought me a few products from this awesome makeup company called Younique recently, and she did so with the intention of having me both love it and talk about it to my blog readers, among others.

After having tried the products for two weeks, I’m totally hooked. I am especially fond of the “false” eyelashes (called Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes). They’re applied a lot like mascara, but really cause your eyelashes to be considerably fuller and longer. This has something to do with the second coat you apply, which is the “fiber” coat.

I also really like the primer and the mineral makeup/coverup and I’m very excited about the rosewater facial refresher stuff. The BB cream does a great job and the makeup brushes are as good as any I’ve ever used, but better shaped for certain looks, in my opinion.

Those are the only products I’ve tried so far, but Sarah has raved about the eye pigments, so I’m looking at giving those a shot as well, among other products (like the anti-aging ones, shh!).

A Shockingly Simple Way You Can Eliminate Performance Anxiety

A Shockingly Simple Way You Can Eliminate Performance Anxiety

“Performance Anxiety is what happens when you focus on yourself and your anxiety, rather than your presentation or performance. It stems from a tendency to resist and fight your anxiety, rather than to accept and work with it. It’s the result of thinking of the performance situation as a threat, rather than a challenge.” ~AnxietyCoach.com

A Startling Fact About Performance Anxiety

quote-Anais-Nin-anxiety-is-loves-greatest-killer-it-makes-88899Choking under pressure is a common response whether you’re playing the lead in the third grade Christmas play or giving an important business presentation. Unfortunately, about 90% of people handle stressful situations poorly.

A recent experiment shows that getting excited works better than trying to calm down. During a public singing contest, students were given various instructions. Those who said, “I am excited,” scored an average of 81% compared to 69% for those who said, “I am anxious,” and 53% for those who said, “I am calm.”

Learn how to use anxiety to your advantage when you’re in high stress situations. These tips will help you to perform better even when your palms are sweating.

Encouraging Yourself to Get Excited

  1. Remain fired up. It’s difficult to calm down when your body is on high alert. Excitement is an easier state to capture when you feel anxious and your heart rate is up.

  2. Distract yourself from self-doubts. You may have an interior monologue going on criticizing what you’re saying or how you look. Divert your attention to pleasant mental images or focus on the people around you.
  1. Focus on the positive. Think about what you have to gain in the situation. Focus on entertaining or helping your audience rather than worrying about forgetting your lines or losing your job.

  2. Generate flow. Put aside the outcomes for the moment. Lose yourself in the process. Enjoy what you’re doing for its own sake.

  3. Rename your feelings. Tell yourself you’re excited. Your brain will like that better than being anxious.
  1. Remember the benefits of anxiety. Anxiety has its positive side. It motivates us to take action. Without some anxiety, we would have little incentive to work or do anything challenging.

Additional Tips

  1. Accept your feelings. Realize that anxiety is natural. Everyone experiences uncertainty and wonders what will happen in the future. By some estimates, about 20% of people report that their performance suffers when they feel tense.
  1. Seek long term peace. While it’s difficult to calm down on short notice, serenity is still a worthwhile goal. Your mind and body need time to recover after demanding experiences. Manage stress, get good quality sleep, and make time for relaxation.

  2. Evaluate advice. High anxiety makes people more likely to seek outside advice and less likely to assess it accurately. Think before you follow someone else’s recommendations. Consider how to adapt them to your own circumstances.
  3. Engage in rituals. Even irrational practices can help. Many athletes hold onto lucky bottle caps or wear a certain pair of socks. Find your own good luck charm!

  4. Beware of manipulation. Unfortunately, researchers also found that anxious people were more likely to attract advisors who would deliberately mislead them. Be extra careful if you have any doubts.
  5. Acknowledge genetics. There’s a strong hereditary basis for stress responses. Some people are more physiologically sensitive. But, everyone can learn to become more resilient.

  6. Empathize with yourself and others. Anxiety is often confused with weakness. While you’re learning to manage your emotions, give yourself credit for becoming more adept. Encourage others who are going through similar struggles.

  7. Seek professional advice. If anxiety is interfering with your life, there are effective treatments. Talk with your doctor to see if medication or therapy may be helpful.

You can make anxiety work for you. Just stop calling it anxiety and tap into your excitement. You’ll feel better and enjoy more success.

Expert Tip: 4 Easy Ways to Stop Food Cravings

Expert Tip: 4 Easy Ways to Stop Food Cravings

By Jamie Paretti, MTM Body Fitness Coach

angCakes, cookies and chocolates are simply lovely, don’t you think so?

Those sweet tasting junk foods taste so great; they have you on a natural high.

However, when you consume sweets, you’re feeling of elation isn’t the only thing that’s high, so is your blood glucose.

When you feed into your cravings and savor those decadent sweets, your blood glucose goes off the charts which may leave you feeling tired, sluggish, and out of energy. If you abide by these easy tips they’ll help you to stop your food cravings before they begin.

1. Take time to cook/prepare nutritious food

In this fast paced society that it’s really easy and handy to get food on the go. And most of the time that fast food is filled up with sugar and fat. Have you ever questioned why you crave sugar after you consumed a “healthy” meal? Take some time daily to nourish your body, and this means merely cook healthy and nutritious meals at home. This way you know precisely what’s going in your mouth.

2. Abide by a healthy diet

Dieting means abiding by a healthy balanced food diet rather than cutting out various nutrients from your daily food intake to lose a couple of pounds. Adjust the time and amount of the food you’re having and take steps to improve your digestion and a better body.

3. Stop eating bland food

I know you’re trying to watch your figure, but sacrificing your taste buds is just not the most beneficial solution. Eating bland and tasteless food for days will increase your cravings for food. Begin getting some cooking tips books and try different sorts of food with different spices and herbs to sizzle your taste buds with delight.

4. Exercise if you would like to stop your food cravings

Instead of reaching for the bag of chips in your spare time, go for a healthy walk instead. Most of the time, you’re probably eating because you’re bored or you have nothing else to do, and tricking your mind that you need a sneaky snack to satisfy your craving. But, you just might need a release of energy, and you are able to release your energy by going on a brisk walk.

Most of the time it’s hard to stop cravings, and if you utterly must have that piece of chocolate, go for it. But, don’t gorge. Take a bitty bite and then move on try to eat less every time you feel like having some sweets, try to make your body get used to it. All the same, if you can always convince yourself to go for a succulent and juicy fruit to fulfill your sweet tooth it will be very helpful. Once you stop food cravings, you’ll feel happier, more energized and balanced.
